How to play Lost Monsters
Lost Monsters is a free sliding puzzle game that runs in your browser. Five monsters are lost on a board. Bring the green one home to the exit in as few moves as possible. No download, no sign-up.
The rules
- Pick a monster and slide it. Tap a monster, then swipe up, down, left or right. On a computer you can click it and use the arrow keys.
- Monsters don't stop by themselves. A monster keeps sliding until a wall or another monster is in its way.
- Use the others as stoppers. The other monsters are the key: move them into place so the green monster stops exactly where you need it.
- Win by stopping on the exit. The green monster has to come to rest on the exit. Sliding across it doesn't count.
Undo takes back your last move and Restart starts the board again. New players get a short tutorial first.
Stars and the crown
Every challenge has a best possible solution. The fewer moves you need, the more stars you earn, up to five. The fifth star is the crown: you found the best solution. After every win you can watch that solution move by move.
Three difficulties
| Difficulty | Challenges | Best solution |
|---|---|---|
| Easy | about 1,700 | 2 to 6 moves |
| Medium | about 1,300 | 4 to 14 moves |
| Difficult | about 870 | 7 to 17 moves |
Medium opens once you finish an Easy game with at least three stars, and Difficult after a Medium one.
Tips
- Start from the exit and work backwards: where must the green monster come from, and what has to stop it there?
- Often the first moves don't touch the green monster at all. They build the wall it needs.
- If a board looks impossible, look for a monster that could stand next to the exit as a stopper.
- Won with too many moves? Retry the same board, or watch the best solution to learn the trick.
